Federal Government Shutdown Impacts on San Francisco Attractions

Due to the federal government shutdown, effective Tuesday, Oct. 1 the following San Francisco area attractions have been impacted until further notice. Alcatraz

All cruises to Alcatraz are cancelled and refunds will be made for any cancelled cruises. 

In the meantime, enjoy: Alcatraz Cruises will continue their 90-minute Guardians of the Gate cruises with six departures daily from Pier 33; cruises include narrative on Fort Baker, Fort Point, The Presidio and Alcatraz. Other regularly scheduled bay cruise operators include Blue & Gold Fleet and Red and White Fleet.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area

All units of the park are closed including San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park (Hyde Street Pier and Maritime Museum), Alcatraz, Muir Woods and Fort Point. 

In the meantime, enjoy: California State Parks remain open including Angel Island accessible by ferry from Fisherman�s Wharf and Tiburon. Nearby Candlestick Point offers trails and guided bird walks.

Muir Woods 

Muir Woods is closed.

In the meantime, enjoy: San Francisco has several redwood groves including one in the San Francisco Botanical Garden and another at the base of the Transamerica Pyramid. City parks including Golden Gate Park and McLaren Park are not affected by the budget impasse.

Point Reyes National Seashore

Entire park is closed until further notice. Visitors have no access to trails, visitor centers, beaches, campgrounds, and park-managed roads within the Point Reyes National Seashore that do not serve as thruways.

Presidio of San Francisco

Public safety functions will be unaffected. The United States Park Police and Presidio Fire Department will operate normally. The PresidioGo Around the Park and Downtown Shuttles will continue as usual on the normal schedule.

A number of closures will impact the Presidio:

Parking lots will be closed at Crissy Field north of Mason Street, including East Beach and West Bluff

Battery East parking lot will be closed

Baker Beach parking lot will be closed

Presidio Visitor Center will be closed

Public access to Fort Point, including the restrooms, will be closed

The Warming Hut and Beach Hut cafes will be closed

National Park Service public programs will be cancelled 

In the meantime, enjoy: The Walt Disney Family Museum, Urban Hikes through much of San Francisco�s parklands and Golden Gate Bridge visitor experience remain open; guided tours of the Golden Gate Bridge, operated by the Golden Gate Parks Conservancy, are offered through Oct. 6, 2013.

Yosemite National Park

Services and programs that will be ceased until further notice:

Yosemite National Park will be closed and secured.

Visitor centers and other facilities are closed.

Education programs and special events are canceled.

Permits for special events are rescinded.

Guests staying in hotels and campgrounds will be notified of the closure and given 48 hours to make alternate arrangements and leave the park. 

In the meantime, enjoy: Accommodations outside of Yosemite including Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite, Yosemite Bug Rustic Resort, The Groveland Hotel and Evergreen Lodge remain open and offer access to nearby recreational opportunities.
